Avene Very High Protection Emulsion 50+ SPF UVA UVB Review.Rave

So here is the hero product of my holiday – Avene Very High Protection Emulsion 50+ SPF UVA UVB, which I have already mentioned in my monthly favourites.

I loved everything about it! The formula is not greasy or oily  and doesn’t look white when you apply it properly.  It did not clog my pores and did not break me out, as some sunscreens did in the past.

And, of course, it is a great product to protect the delicate face on the skin.  I have got even tan without burning. But please keep in mind that I was on the beach only in the mornings and evenings.

One more bonus is the compact packaging and the user-friendly pump.

I don’t remember the exact price but it was around €18, I think.

Anyway, I have finally found a great facial sun protection cream.

Is this a chemical or physical/mineral sunscreen? Thanks!

I am impressed you had such a positive experience with this SS! I brought a tube in Europe based on good reviews but it has been relegated to body only usage. If you read the little booklet that comes with the product, it says you need to apply 7…7!!! pumps to get full protection for your face. 7! It’s just not possible for me, I found it too whitening & oily.

    EB, it’s all chemical filters.

I’m impressed that you managed to make this one work, well done! I brought a tube in Europe after reading great reviews but its been relegated to body SPF. I don’t know if you read the little booklet that comes with the product, but they recommend 7!! pumps to get full protection on the face. 7!! I tried but failed miserably. Its more than even the 1/4 teaspoon generally recommended.

    EB, its all chemical filters.

      Hi Paulette,
I did not read any reviews about it, bought it because the lady at the pharmacy recommended it. And, oh my goodness, I did not read about 7 pumps, I used less for sure. Buy it worked for me.

Numerous studies have been done and it’s now been widely established that you need to use 1/4 teaspoon of sunscreen on your face to get the amount of protection that is stated on the product. If you’re using any less than that, you’re not getting the advertised SPF protection. Because you do need to use a generous amount, it is so important to find a sunscreen for your face that is non-irritating, is cosmetically elegant, offers SPF protection of at least 30 when applied correctly, and which plays nicely with your other cosmetics. Oh, yes, and you need to find one that can be used for touch ups during the day. I use 1/2 teaspoon of Chanel SPF 50 on my face, neck, and chest, and a genrous slathering of Shiseido SPF 50 everywhere else. I also carry the Shiseido for touch ups during the day. A good quality sunscreen that you’ll use liberally every single day is the very best anti-aging product money can buy. It’s a lot easier to prevent damage than to try to undo it years later. This comment comes to you from SUNNY Southern California :-)

Thank you very much, Eileen! I really wanted to get the Clarins face sunscreen but ALL (!) Clarins counters in my city were out of stock, maybe next time.
And, yes, I definitely agree with “It’s a lot easier to prevent damage than to try to undo it years later.”

It’s both physical and chemical filters. Just saying. The orange series is a mix of chemical and mineral. The white series contains only mineral filters.
