It is amazing to get unexpected beauty (and not only) presents, right? I was surprised to get the Smashbox palette from their holiday collection with this Dior palette and one more set from MAC’s Tarten Tale as a present for Christmas.
The first thing that I really like about this palette is the golden design, it looks great for holidays. Now this is not the most luxurious design but it looks nice anyway.
This is how the palette looks like inside. You get 12 eye shadows, 4 eye liners, Photo Finish Lid Primer, Mini Lash DNA Mascara and Smashbox’s step-by-step “Get-the-Look” cards.
I am sorry that several shades are used. I should have taken the photo before but I didn’t have a camera with me and I really wanted to try this palette.
I really love those “Get-the-look” cards, they are so useful to those who are not very experienced when it comes to makeup. They are also great when you have a lack of ideas and need to put on your makeup as fast as possible or want to try something new. There are 10 looks with a very easy to follow instructions. I’ve tried to create 2 looks so far (but want to try them all) and I was quite happy with the results.
And here are the swatches of the eye shadows and liners. And I really like the idea that
Laura Mercier’s Kohl Eye Pencils are favourites of a lot of people and I can totally see why.
I have five (mini) pencils and would like to show them to you today.
The colours that I have are: Black Violet, Brown Copper, Stormy Grey, Stone Slate and Black Gold. And here is how they looks like.
These have a very soft and creamy texture and glide on easily, without dragging the skin. They have a fantastic pay off and gorgeous colours. Yes, the colours are definitely fantastic, all five of them! I imagine that blue and green shades are to die for, as well!
I would suggest kohl pencils for a quick smoky eye, you could use them on their own or with the eye shadows on top, looks great either way.
Brown Cooper, my personal
I want to show you one of my favourite eye liners – Rouge Bunny Rouge Rave Glaze Laquer Liner.
It is a jet black eyeliner with a precise tip which allows you to control the application. On me it lasts all day with smudging or fading. I also find it easy to apply but if you are not very confident with the liner – you may try using pencil or eye shadows first to ‘map’ the line and then use this liner.
Here is how the tip of the liner looks like
Regular readers know my big love for Rouge Bunny Rouge’s Raven Glaze, a glossy ultra black eye liner. Yes, it is not matte or shiny, it is like a black gloss!
I was actually intrigued when I found out that they re-vamped it because I couldn’t imagine how it could be even better. I actually have a sample of the new version, so here is what’s the deal.
It is all about the nib! Now it is very thin and precise, you can easily create even the most delicate line, fill the gaps between the lashes or create a sharp cat eye. And, of course, you can make the line thicker, if you wish.
But please keep in mind that
I did a feature about Sedona Lace’s brush belt, which is absolutely amazing, some time ago. I have actually bought one of their gel liners ($5.95) back then and would like to tell you about it, as well. I guess it’s better late than never.
I’ve chosen their Eyeliner Gel called Smoky Eyes which turned out to be a pretty grey shade. And I think it’s a perfect one, not too dark but not too light or blue, the colour payoff is excellent, too, as the liner is nicely pigmented. I really like how it looks like with my brown eyes.
