Inside My Mum’s Makeup Bag

Sometimes it feels really weird that I love makeup. My Mum couldn’t care less about it, and I did not really read glossy magazines or watch beauty shows on TV growing up.  (I did do it all but it was when I already knew that I love all things beauty).

My Mum did have quite a few lipsticks and a mascara but she was not obsessed with all those things and wore makeup only for special occasions. She did like perfume though, as long as I remember.

So I’ve decided to ask her what makeup products she truly loves. And since I’ve mentioned perfume – her most used one these days.

Before I start I have to mention that she does use  foundation and mascara occasionally but  she doesn’t really have a favourite and would just use whichever [I give her]. However, the  products shown above she loves and uses on a regular basis.

As you can already guess, Mum’s favourite makeup product is a lipstick. She has a fair complexion with dark eyes and very dark hair so bright reds and berries look amazing on her.

Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy in 06 Luscious Cherry (review and swatches).  This is her ultimate favourite. She always carries it in her handbag. It is a  sheer cherry red with golden shimmer which has glossy finish. My Mum says she loves how it feels on the lips, the formula and the packaging.

Chanel Glossimer in 04 Spark (lip swatches) is her favourite gloss. I’ve bought this for myself originally but decided to give it to her, as it would really suit her. And she loves it a lot. It is a sparkling warm-toned  berry which is opaque enough to make a statement.

While my Mum loves lip products, I kind of made her use blushers. It makes such a huge difference in the appearance, brightens up the complexion and you just look healthier and more youthful. Clarins Multi-Blush Cream Blush in 03 Grenadine (review and swatches) is the one she uses, and I am very happy to see that she actually hit the pan on it. You can use it without a brush and the formula is perfect for her. It is not very creamy and oily ( I love such texture actually) but at the same time doesn’t look too “powdery”.

As for the perfume, Mum says that her current favourite is Jo Malone  Peony & Blush Suede which makes me very happy, as I’ve bought her this one for her Birthday when it came out several years ago. Top note is red apple; middle notes are peony, jasmine, carnation and rose; base note is suede.

Lovely post. It’s always interesting to hear what influence (or not!) make-up addicts’ mums had on them growing up, and how that relationship has evolved.
