It is amazing to get unexpected beauty (and not only) presents, right? I was surprised to get the Smashbox palette from their holiday collection with this Dior palette and one more set from MAC’s Tarten Tale as a present for Christmas.
The first thing that I really like about this palette is the golden design, it looks great for holidays. Now this is not the most luxurious design but it looks nice anyway.
This is how the palette looks like inside. You get 12 eye shadows, 4 eye liners, Photo Finish Lid Primer, Mini Lash DNA Mascara and Smashbox’s step-by-step “Get-the-Look” cards.
I am sorry that several shades are used. I should have taken the photo before but I didn’t have a camera with me and I really wanted to try this palette.
I really love those “Get-the-look” cards, they are so useful to those who are not very experienced when it comes to makeup. They are also great when you have a lack of ideas and need to put on your makeup as fast as possible or want to try something new. There are 10 looks with a very easy to follow instructions. I’ve tried to create 2 looks so far (but want to try them all) and I was quite happy with the results.
And here are the swatches of the eye shadows and liners. And I really like the idea that they are divided into 4 colour families: bronze, purple, blue and grey. That is great that you can actually create a beautiful look using different shades from the same colour family.
So here is how Smashbox describes the colours: champagne, soft grey, matte bone, ballet pink, shimmering bronze, mauve, aqua, cool grey, warm brown, eggplant, deep teal, and charcoal.
I should have swatches the shades according to the colours, not the numbers but I’ve got this idea too late. So here are the swatches with and without the primer. The primer has a nude colour to it and works pretty nice but I can’t say that I’ve tested it the proper way, this is just the first impression.
And now the eye liners which are very beautiful…
Although I can’t say that this is my favourite palette, I do like it. As I already said I really love the idea of the colour families and the “Get-the-look” cards. I also like that you are getting the liners, mascara and primer with the set.
These also didn’t become my favourite eye shadows, but for the price ($45 in the US) it’s an amazing set. I am not sure if I would it for myself but I would definitely get it for a younger sister (if I had one) or a teenage girl. I would be extremely happy to get such palette if I were a teen. But, hey, I think this is a great gift even now.
It’s a LE so if you want to get it – do it NOW!
