Looks like Face Of the Day is now a more, or less regular feature. Maybe at some point, I will get brave enough to include photos of myself, too. Who knows?! But, as for now, here are the products that I’ve used and my opinion about them.
This look was all about my good ol’ blush love – Chanel Orchid Rose. I used to wear it every single day years ago, so I’ve decided to show it some love today.
I’ve started with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Ivory to get a medium coverage and glowing effect, that way I didn’t even need a highlighter. It’s a great “foundation” for dull Autumn days. I’ve added some YSL’s Touche Eclat under the eyes, to brighten up the area and make me look less tired.
As, I’ve already mentioned, I’ve used Chanel Joues Contraste in Orchid Rose blush, which is a pretty warm-toned shade. To add even more warmth to the face – I’ve used YSL’s Terre Saharienne Bronzing Powder in N° 5 Cinnamon Sand.
I wanted this look to be all about
I actually can’t believe that I did not write a review about Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer as I’ve had it for a long time already (I guess you can see that).
This is a very innovative product from the brand which is basically an ultra-black glossy top coat for lashes.
It comes with a small brush and you just paint the lacquer on top of your mascara. It makes the lashes very black (mascara just can’t give such an intense black shade) and glossy.
It is a great product for an evening out or a special event. In fact, a lot of celebrities, who’s makeup was done by Hourglass wore it on the red carpet.
Have you seen the makeup/dresses from the Golden Globes? I have to admit that I’ve spent a lot of time looking at all the images. I have a break-down on how to create several looks and thought I’d share about this Kate Beckinsale’s look as I really like her and I also love that most products that were used on her were from Hourglass.
Kate’s makeup was created by a Make-Up Artist Molly Stern and here is what she said about it:
“Kate’s Roberto Cavalli dress was so ethereal and magical, I wanted to keep the skin looking completely luminous and create a bit of edge with the eyes. The combination of Hourglass’ Veil Mineral Primer and Illusion Tinted Moisturizer is utterly gorgeous. The foundation is sheer, blendable and buildable but still leaves skin looking translucent. I used Film Noir Lash Lacquer to give Kate’s lashes drama, depth and dimension. It’s everything you want in a red-carpet look.”
Molly began by moisturizing Kate’s skin with Natura Bisse’s The Cure Cream. She then primed with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer which creates a flawless canvas for makeup, followed by a light application of Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. Molly loved the sheer finish of the foundation which allowed the British beauty’s gorgeous skin to shine through.
She used the bronze tone in Hourglass Illume Crème-to Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to add warmth to her skin, and followed with the blush tone applied on the apples of her cheeks. She then dusted Nars Miss Liberty high on her cheekbone to add an extra glow.
Molly used the bronze shade of Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy (my review) as a base, and set it with Nars Galapagos Eye Shadow, smudged deep into the lid. For an extra pop of light, she dabbed Chanel’s Blazing Gold Ombré Essential over the inner lid.
Her lashes are
This holiday Hourglass’ Artistic Director Gina Brooke suggests that we try two looks that she created with Hourglass Cosmetics.
Here is what she says herself:
“The holidays are the perfect time to explore a more refined and layered look. Think rich jewel tones, luminous skin and decadent glamour. I always prime first with Veil Mineral Primer and follow with Illusion Tinted Moisturizer for a glowing complexion. They’re the fundamental steps for looking elegant.”
“A vibrant olive shadow really pops—especially if you foil the color,” says Brooke, who suggests using Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune. Using a shadow brush, apply the champagne shade first. Use your finger to blend for a graduation of color. Then apply the green shimmer shade. To heighten the impact of the shade, wet your brush before application but make sure to let the shadow dry before moving on to another shade.
Pair your statement eyes with Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light applied to the cheeks. Focus on the highlighter shade in the duo.
Finish up with Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Fortune (metallic pink shimmer).
I am happy to share the look that was created by Hourglass Artistic Director Gina Brooke for the Imitation of Christ Spring 2012 runway show which took a place on the 8th September at the W Hotel at Union Square.
“The theme of the show was a super-chic wedding party and designer Tara Subkoff orchestrated the affair to seem like a lighthearted walk down the aisle. To accompany the distinctly romantic and playful mood, Brooke devised a look that showcased flawless skin, vivid eyes and pale lips. “It’s about clean, beautiful and memorable makeup—it is a wedding after all,” says Brooke. “This look is timeless, it’s never going to go out of style.”
Even the inspirations testified to the classic motif: Elizabeth Taylor in A Place in the Sun (1951), Grace Kelly in To Catch A Thief (1955), and Catherine Deneuve in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, a 1964 French musical.”

It is a silky, luxurious oil blend that glides on to create a retexturized surface for foundation, hydrates the complexion and triggers a sensory experience with a host of fragrant essential oils.
