It’s interesting how our preferences shift over time. I remember the days when I’d do anything to hunt down a Limited Edition Urban Decay palette (anyone else?).
These days, while I wouldn’t call my approach “less-is-more” just yet, I’ve definitely pared things down. I still love trying new products, but there are a few staples in my makeup bag that have stood the test of time — and I repurchase them again and again. Let’s take a look.
Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner in Cocoa, £32.
This one made my 2023 makeup favourites list and it’s still going strong. It’s soft and buttery, with intense pigment and serious staying power. You can see for yourself in the photo above. I usually dislike “desert island” beauty questions, but if I had to choose just one product — this might be it.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Pillow Talk Fair, £22
Another returning favourite. This liner defines lips beautifully, can make them look fuller (if that’s the effect you’re after), and helps your lipstick last longer — if you’re wearing any. I often wear it alone or with a bit of lip balm, and it looks great.
If I were pressed for time, I’d just add SPF, bronzer or blusher & mascara, and I’d be good to go.
