NYX Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil in Dark Brown Review and Swatches

I’ve been wanting to try the NYX Jumbo Pencils for a long time already as I’ve read so many great reviews and it is probably a cult product already. Plus the price is really affordable (only $4.50 in the US) so why not giving it a try?

I’ve picked up one colour just to try out and see my impression, although I was tempted to get a lot of different shades. I’ve got the shade called Dark Brown which looked like the colour I would love and use a lot.

I was really impressed with the pigmentation of this particular pencil, as it is so intense and the shade is buildable. The formula is nice as well, it glides on smoothly and is easy to blend.

I am also so happy about the colour that I’ve chosen as  Dark Brown is the exact shade that I love using for my daily makeup look. I just use this Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil on my lid and on the bottom lash line and blend it with my   No7 Smokey Eyeliner Brush and MAC 217, add some mascara and I am ready to go.

This is is how the colour looks like with the flash

Jumbo pencil can be used on its own or as a base for the eye shadows.  On the photo you can see Dark Brown, Dark Brown blended, NARS Night Clubbing and Benefit Busy Signal on top of it.

Staying power is really impressive. My eye lids are not oily so I don’t really have a problem with creasing in general and as for this pencil it has only some minor creasing after several hours. You may want to use a primer if you have oily lids. I haven’t tried it on oily lids yet so I can’t say anything about the staying power on them.

I think this is the case where the product is worth the hype.
There are a lot of colours to choose from, the pigmentation is great, the price is very affordable and there are so many ways you can use these pencils.
The only minus I can see here is that it can crease on the oily eye lids but you can try using primer, right?
I personally want to  get more shades in the future.

  1. I love using NYX Milk as a base for bright looks, and I’ve been thinking about getting Black Bean as a base for smokey looks. On me, these crease very easily w/out a primer, but as long as I wear primer underneath and set it w/ eyeshadow, it’s fine. Love the shade you chose, it looks very versatile!

  2. I have this Dark Brown one but I must admit I’ve been ignoring it for so long. I think I’m gonna give it a try again. 😉
