2023 Beauty Favourites: Makeup & Nails

This feature has been sitting in my drafts since December 2023. But it is better late than never, right? So, let me talk you through the beauty products I’ve enjoyed using the most in 2023. I also split it into two parts, as it was getting too long. So, part one will be all about makeup and nail products and part two about skincare, products for body & hair fragrance!

Eyes

Dior Backstage Eye Palette in 002 Cool Neutrals

I have so many eye palettes but this is the one I keep reaching for all the time. I have cool skin tone, and 002 Cool Neutrals colour way is ideal. But there are various options to choose from if you fancy something different. You have got everything you can think of in this compact palette: a primer, a highlighter, a sculpting powder, matte and shimmer eye shadows. The quality is excellent, as you would expect. The shades are pigmented, apply like a dream and are a pleasure to work with. Great for travelling, as well.

Gucci L’Obscur Mascara in Eve Black

This was on my wish list for quite some time and, oh boy, it did not disappoint. First of all, I really love the design, it stands out for me among the rest of high-end products. And the formula is superb, I find. I do not like “your lashes but better” when it comes to eye makeup, I want wow-effect. And L’Obscur mascara delivers. Big fan and would definitely buy it again.

Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner in Cocoa (review of a different shade).

Another item that I am obsessed with. Probably the best brown pencil I have owned, soft, easy-to-blend but long-lasting at the same time. If I could have only two items in my makeup bag, one of them would be this pencil (and another one – mascara) Please don’t make me pick just one!

Chantecaille Luminescent Eye Shade in Smokey Burgundy (swatch here)

All Chantecaille products I’ve tried are top-notch quality, and this is not an exception. Smokey Burgundy is such a gorgeous and complex shade that you can create a multi-dimensional look just with it. You get a sheen and a polished sparkle. Just add mascara and [and eye liner if you fancy], and that’s it. This could be the most beautiful eye shadow that I own, and I do have a lot!

Face

I don’t wear foundation on a daily basis and only occasionally wear a tinted moisturiser or a light base. Sometimes I use an under eye concealer but I did not have a favourite this year and just used whichever I had in my makeup bag that day. However, I do love adding colour to my face, and here are the two products that I have been loving for years now.

theBalm Balm Desert (swatches here)

This is my third one! I have spoken so much about it over the years, it is perfect for warming up the face and adding some dimension. It’s the one in the middle on the photo.

tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in Blushing Bride (review and swatches)

‘Blushing Bride’ is the perfect name for this shade and this was actually my wedding blush! It is a beautiful berry with a touch of shimmer. And by following the link you can see how it looks on my skin tone.

Lips

I rarely reach for lipsticks and use too many lip glosses and balms to pick up a favourite. But when it comes to a lip liner, this one has been a firm staple in my makeup bag for years. In fact, I have recently bought a new one. That was before the new Lisa Eldridge lip pencils launch. Next time, I will give them a try! The ArtDeco one really suits my natural lip colour, stays on well and helps cheating the shape of the lips slightly.

ArtDeco Soft Lip Liner Waterproof in 80  (review here)

Nails

I rarely have a manicure in the salon these days for various reasons and prefer painting my nails myself. I find it quite therapeutic actually. And here are the things I’ve been loving in 2023.

Mavala Extra-Mild Nail Polish Remover (review here)

The only nail varnish remover I have been using on my nails for a very long time now. I have written about it in details, so please have a read.

Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File

I have had mine for at least 5 years, and it is as good, as new. Does the job and is handy to have it in a case. I have a few products from LD and love them all.

Manucurist Natural Nail Colour in Poppy Red

This is a bright, statement red with warm undertones. I find that the formula is easy to apply and stays on well. Would get more shades from the brand!

Stay tuned for part 2, and in the meantime you can follow me on Instagram.
